Awhile back I got a comment from Ann Lee on how to optimize a WordPress blog so that it will be loved by the search engines. After much thought on what I have been doing with my blog and it is getting some results, these are what I would suggest.
- Configure Permalink
- Install All-In-One-SEO Pack Plugin
- Install Google Sitemap plugin
- Use Social Bookmarking
- Target Long Tailed Key Phrases
The URL of newly installed WordPress blog is not search engine optimized (SEO). It is just some numbers which makes no sense to your online visitors. This is even worst for the search engines which send out robots to decipher what your blog is all about.
Therefore it is very important to make your URL as meaningful as ever. What I have done in Make Money Mall, I have created categories using keywords that I wish to target.
Not only it is easy for my online visitors to navigate on your blog, it will also help the robots from search engines to understand what your blog is all about.
To make the URL friendly for the search engines, once you are in your Dashboard of your blog, click “Settings” followed by “Permalink”.
Enter this line of code “ /%category%/%postname% ” into the custom structure and you are done!
It is very important to place the keyword that you wish to target in the title, description and keyword Meta tag.
The beauty of using a WordPress blog is that there are such All-In-One-SEO plugin to make your blog user or search engine friendly.
Once installed, every time when you make a post, remember to construct a sentence or two with your keyword in them.
Another great and must have plugin is Google XML Sitemap Generator. Once installed, it will automatically generate a link behind the scene when you make a post. What this plugin does is to ensure that the search engines index all the posts and pages of your blog.
To reach out to every corner of the earth, it is good to engage with Social Bookmarking like StumbleUpon, Twitter, Facebook and Digg.
Whenever you are done with your post, simply submit your post to all these social bookmarking sites and eventually you will have traffic trickling in. Instead of submitting to all these social bookmarking sites, I used services like Onlywire or Social Marker to speed things up.
If you are new with Internet Marketing, it is important to keep your hope alive. After investing so much time on your blog and yet receive no traffic will kill your interest very fast.
Trying to get traffic for competitive keywords like make money online is not going to be easy for me and so it will be for you as well. Instead I have targeted long tailed key phrases but with “make money” in it and is able to draw some traffic.
There are lots of ways to optimized a WordPress blog for search engines but the 5 ways that I have listed above are the crux in getting your WordPress blog rank somewhere with the search engines and as well as getting some organic traffic.

Hey nice article very interesting however can you provide some light on how to Dominate Niches? For example Like how to buildbacklinks? Is a linkwheel the way to go when building backlinks for search engines? Is content still king for search engines? and what keyword density should you aim for in your articles,website & WP Post or would you suggest going the PPC route? I’m sure It would be very Usefull for others.
